Nothing's free

The idea is simple: every reward has a price, and that price is often hidden in discomfort. Market returns are never truly “free.” They demand patience during crashes, doubt during uncertainty, and the courage to look wrong before being proven right. Volatility isn’t a punishment; it’s the admission fee for long-term growth.

Successful investors understand that fear, uncertainty, and temporary losses are part of the deal. Trying to avoid these costs usually means giving up the reward itself. When people panic and exit during downturns, they aren’t avoiding risk—they’re paying a different price: missing the recovery. Endurance, not brilliance, is what captures returns.

The key is to see market turbulence as a fee rather than a fine. A fine feels like something went wrong; a fee is simply the cost of getting something valuable. Once you accept that stress and uncertainty are normal prices for wealth building, you stop fighting them—and start positioning yourself to benefit from them.
